Most commonly associated with bone structure, calcium actually plays several other key roles within the body: it is required structurally in bones and teeth, used in both growth and repair; is an intracellular regulator, including keeping your muscles and heart functioning; keeps blood working correctly; maintains nerve function; is a cofactor for many proteins and enzymes, including blood clotting; preserves cell membrane permeability.
We asked the developer about this, and here was his answer:
"I think calcium citrate is the best form of calcium firstly because stomach acidity is not required for its absorption and secondly because it reduces the risk of kidney stones rather than potentially enhancing the risk, as with other forms of calcium."
We then asked the developer this question:
Here was his answer:
"Kidney stones are usually composed of calcium oxalate and/or calcium phosphate, hence there is a concern that supplementing any form of calcium could foster the development of stones. Citrate, however, reduces the concentration of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate in urine, thus retarding the formation and growth of kidney stones".
Coral Calcium is more expensive, but is also a good source of magnesium, and other trace minerals. It also has other vitamins and minerals added which are traditionally associated with bone joint integrity. Coral Calcim is therefore a more rounded product, whereas Calcium Citrate is good for those who only want a calcium supplement..
