Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa), or Uña de Gato, is a climbing vine from the Peruvian Amazon. It gains its name from the barbed ‘claws’ with which it climbs the rainforest canopy. Cat’s Claw bark and root have been used by the Asháninka people of the Peruvian Rainforest for at least 2,000 years for health and well being. There are many actives in Cat's claw - including alkaloids thought to contribute to the immune system, and a group of chemicals called quinovic acid glycosides. Other actives are carboxyl alkyl esters, sterols (beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol) and antioxidants. A lot of resaarch has been done on this herb, and is published, and can be found on the internet. Below are some of the areas that have been researched and found to have positive outcomes.
