Native to Southeast Asia, cinnamon is a spice made from the inner bark of the genus cinnamomum, an evergreen of the laurel family. There are two main varieties of cinnamon - cinnamomum zeylanicum, known as true cinnamon, and cinnamomum aromaticum, also known as cassia.

The historical use of cinnamon can be traced back to 2000 BC in Ancient Egypt where it was highly valued and used as a form of currency. The beneficial properties were utilized by ancient health practitioners such as Dioscorides and Galen and have been used to alleviate stomach cramps, intestinal spasms and flatulence.

More recently, studies heve shown that supplementing the diet with Cinnamon can contribute to normal blood sugar levels, and it can be safely used for extended periods of time.

Cinnamon can help maintain normal blood glucose levels as part of a healthy lifestyle.
