Vitamin C has become so well known since the publication of the book "Vitamin C and the Common Cold" by Linus Pauling in the early 70's, and countless books since then, such as the 500 page, fully referenced "Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins" by Thomas E. Levy, M.D., J.D. summarising literally hundreds of published peer reviewed scientific and medical papers that it seems pretty amazing that there is even a debate about the remarkable health benefits of this critical detoxifying, antioxidant, anti aging, collagen building, immune building, anti viral, and general infection fighting vitamin. Countless papers and other books have been published demonstrating the health benefits and safety of supplementing ones diet with Vitamin C even beyond these books. Even though they have totally lost this argument, some people are still arguing over whether Vitamin C supplementation enhances health, and frankly, we think it's ridiculous (not to mention ignorant, since it's incredibly easy these days to find the information proving otherwise). The same is true of supplementation of many other nutrients, but 'Vitamin C scepticism' if we can call it that, is exceptionally silly. It really is time that that nutrition 'sceptics' and people with obvious vested interests engage in a more intelligent debate than arguing over the benefits of Vitamin C, which are obvious, incontrovertible, and proven.
The body does not produce or store Vitamin C. The official / government NRV (Nutrient Reference Value) for Vitamin C is a mere 60mg per day but this figure is based on what has been observed to be sufficient to prevent scurvy. This is a disease caused by such grossly deficient levels of Vitamin C in the body that the tissues start to break down, until death occurs. So this advice is basically based on the minimum amount needed to avoid dropping dead. Well, fair enough; we agree that not dropping dead is a good start. However, the NRV is not based on what most nutritionists regard as optimal amounts for health and well being, which pretty much all nutritionists agree are far in excess of 60mg.
They usually contain citrus bioflavanoids to 'improve' the absorption (though admittedly this is gradually going out of fashion in the industry). Unfortunately a large proportion of people are allergic to the citrus element, making its inclusion counter productive for those individuals. According to our supplier, the quantities added are usually insufficient to assist the vitamin C absorption but are sufficient to trigger intolerance. So it's a lose-lose scenario.

We were recently asked whether this was the L or D form of Vitamin C. We checked with the supplier and this is what they said. Our Vitamin C is 100% L-ascorbic acid. D-ascorbic acid does not exist in nature and most modern chemists hold that it is a theoretical entity that cannot even be synthesised, while others claim it can be synthesised but is devoid of vitamin C activity.
